i think the main reason they made the strap stronger,as well as adding the lock to the strap,was to prevent any more Wii accidents.

just wanted to add taht there is a program for the computer that lets you control your computer using the wii mote all u need is a wii and the software wich as far as i know is free i have seen it work before and its prety cool i dont know any specifics all i know is that its called wiindows and theres another one for mac but not sure on that one just go to google and type in wiindows you should find it
