I just bought a new Midnight Blue DSi XL and out of the box I noticed that both screens seemed pixelated, but the top screen has a yellow tint to it, as if it has less brightness than the touch screen.
Is this normal for the dsi xl to experience slight pixelation due to the massive screens? Also, I noticed that the hinges are sort of loose like when I move the system, the screen bobs back and forth. Is this normal?

This isn’t normal. When my parents bought me a DSi XL, the brightness was equal to both screens, the hinges should be stable, and my screen doesn’t bob back and forth like yours does.
I suggest that you return it and explain the problem and maybe exchange it for a new Midnight Blue DSi XL.
