*A piece of cloth to cover it when not in use.
*A low powered vacuum and some compressed air to clean out the internal dust once a month.
*External hard drive to back up all your data so its not lost, just in case something happens to the PS3.
Bluetooth headset or USB wired headset. Stay away from the Motorola brand.
Second controller. Best to use Sony controllers or Logitech controllers.
Extra mini USB to USB charge cable. Or controller charger accessory that mounts to AC outlet.
USB hub in case 2 USB ports aren’t enough.
USB keyboard if you plan to do a lot of typing.
Starred items are essential items you’ll need.
I would recomend another controller, a headset, as well as a keyboard. The onscreen keyboard can take forever to put in what you want to have put into a URL or a name for something….
Headset would come in most handy if you play a lot of FPS games, specially in team mode, be able to communicate better with teammates…
And of course the controller incase a buddy drops by and yall want to get onto a game together. =P
You should get the game “Little Big Planet”
Accessories:
-Bluetooth headset [for the mic on some games]
-Extra controller [for multiplayer]
-And a Key Pad [for texting and internet]
_Did you know the PS3 have Wi-Fi for online actions_
Get yourself a Bluetooth headset and an extra controller. That about sums it up for the vast majority of games you will play and Blu-ray/DVD watching. The Blu-ray remote works fine, but so does your standard controller, so it’s a waste of money.
Speaking of Bluetooth Headsets, don’t bother with the Official Sony Headset, its about twice as expensive as other brands that offer similar results. I use a cheap one (~ $20) and it is fantastic.
You may want to consider a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse if you are interested in computer-style gameplay – offered in some games – or are planning on spending a lot of time chatting in “Home.” Typing words out with the controller is horrendously inadequate. If you don’t want a whole Keyboard but are still interested in quick typing your messages, you can get the PS3 wireless keyboard. It works great and is nicely compact.
Make sure to get yourself a nice HDMI cable if you are playing on a full 1080p HD TV. There is no better connection on the planet.
That about sums it up. Any other accessories are generally game specific, i.e. rockband, Guitar Hero, etcetera, and the needed accessory(ies) are generally included or offered with the game at a special price.
Recommended Games:
inFamous (Playing it now, its awesome)
Metal Gear Solid 4
Resistance 2
Killzone 2
Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion GOTYE
Little Big Planet
Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
You don’t need chargers, LED stands or intercoolers (especially intercoolers, they do more damage than good). Old bandanna will do a perfect job in protecting PS3 from the dust (don’t waste your money). Low-powered vacuum is a waste of money too. Standard household vacuum is perfect (if you gently vacuum PS3 vent holes, I’m doing it this way or with pressurized air for 2 years). External HDD for backups is nice, but not necessary.
What you really need:
1). If you’re a HD-movie fan Blu-ray remote (lets you control movie options much better) – http://www.amazon.com/Sony-PlayStation-3-Blu-ray-Disc-Remote/dp/B000M17AVO
2). Second controller (preferably Dualshock 3) – for friends
3). If you’re FPS fan – FragFX is perfect for FPS games (play it PC way) http://www.amazon.com/PS3-FragFX-v-2-Controller-Playstation-3/dp/B001V6WZQ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1244496486&sr=1-1
4). Bluetooth headset for in-game chatting http://www.amazon.com/Jabra-BT125-Bluetooth-Headset-Black/dp/B000J4HCBM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1244496609&sr=8-1
5). HDMI or component cable (if you own HDTV). HDMI is better since it supports FullHD (1080p). None of those cables are included with PS3. Don’t fall for expensive brands crap. If the distance between your TV and PS3 is less than 3m – 10$-20$ cable is as good as 100$ cable.
6). Good UPS ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uninterruptible_power_supply ) or at least a decent surge protector to protect PS3 from power jumps.
7). PS3 Eye – very nice web-camera for PS3 (there are a couple of nice games for this thing too, Eyepet is coming out soon!) http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-3-Eye/dp/B000VTQ3LU
8). USB keyboard preferablyy wireless) – very good for text chatting, messaging, etc. Unfortunately, can’t be used for gaming.
9). Optical audio cable (if your audio system supports it) – the best sound!
10). Finally, I would say this is a necessary thing if you want to get a full experience out of your PS3 – 1080p (FullHD) HDTV. Samsung HDTVs are the best in terms of price and quality (6th or 7th series).
Playstation Official Headset
Playstation Eye
