My old Xbox just got the red rings, and I'm going to buy the new one, but I'm wondering if I can still transfer old data from my old HDD to the new one without buying extra equipment.

The only way would be if you already have a USB flash drive. Or if this is the older system to an older system you could use a memory card(the new slim can not use memory cards).
