If you think that World of Warcraft is the video game that reigns supreme in the Internet games market, think again. Offering stiff competition to World of Warcraft is RuneScape, which now boasts of a massive fan following of its own. Though not a premium Internet game, its advantage lies in the fact that it can be played on any Internet browser capable of running Java, even on a very low-end computer.
Accessing RuneScape using a browser is really easy. Since it is meant to be played by children as well, the setup is fairly straightforward and does not require any complex or elaborate installation. All a player needs to do is to create an account and then start the RuneScape program which is available at the game’s website. You will then need to download some files to make your computer compatible with playing RuneScape. Once that is done, you are ready to start your action adventure with RuneScape.
Given that this game is meant to be played on an Internet browser, the graphics are kept to a very minimum level. And though you may feel that the presentation should be improved a little more, you will be very impressed as you proceed with the game. Even with these very basic visuals, you can see that the action sequences are mind-boggling. You can create your own character by selecting from a given set of hair, faces and bodies. You can mix and match till you are happy with the look of the character. You can even work in details like a robe or an armor.
Though even children play RuneScape, it is not an easy game by any stretch of the imagination. There are many elements of the game which can be very difficult to even understand and to help you out, the team designing RuneScape has also worked on a tutorial to help you out at various stages. Instead of starting out players immediately into the world of Pkings you can first start in a beginners area where you will learn the very basics of your game, receive your initial training if you like. You can start your game anytime you like. Again, because the game is being played on a browser, attack modes are simple but the combats are fairly challenging. There are multiple stages with the difficulty level increasing at every stage.
RuneScape is mostly free and you can enjoy almost all the important sections without having to pay anything for it. There are however some advanced sections, which may be accessed, only on paying a small membership fee of $5. The only disadvantages of playing the game free are two banner ads that run on the top and side of the playing area which do not obstruct your view at all. Most importantly, the game’s website contains a detailed set of FAQ that parents can go through to understand all about the new game that their kid is playing.
Designed to be accessed by millions and with stunning encounters at every level, RuneScape truly creates a world full of surprises.
