Playstation Controller 3 – Solid Controller, My Personal Favorite Controller Of All Time

When Sony came into the video game scene many years ago with the PSX aka PSOne, they created one of the best controllers ever made. The shoulder buttons are very comfortable and easy to press within a split second, great for games that require fast reaction time. The four face buttons are spaced perfectly, and the overall design of the controller fits the hand perfectly. Sony hit the bulls-eye with the PSOne Dualshock controller, and they transferred this design over to the PS2. The design was still so popular that Sony could not resist transferring it over again. The added benefit of the Playstation Controller 3(Dualshock 3) on the PS3 is the added freedom of wireless.

The Playstation Controller 3 is easy to adapt to for Sony console veterans, making the upgrade to the PlayStation 3 even less painless then it already is. The PlayStation 3 sticks to Sony's winning formula, utilizing familiar buttons, and the same layout as controllers before it. Players will easily recognize the mapping of the controllers, with trademark "square", "triangle", "circle" and "x" buttons that Sony fans have become accustomed to.

The PlayStation 3 also follows the tried and true method of the Xbox 360 controller by placing a "home" icon on the controller. The "home" icon is located in the center of the controller, and upon pressing it the player will view the PlayStation 3 XMB. The XMB is the main navigational source for the PS3, displaying the contents of the console's hard-drive and disc-drive. Holding the button down for a longer period of time will allow either the controller or the console to be turned off remotely.

The Playstation Controller 3 easily syncs with the console and has a great battery life as well. The controller also comes packaged with a USB cable that you can use to charge the controller with in case of long gaming sessions where the battery may begin to run low. The only drawback with this is the length of cable is not long enough to actually allow the gamer to sit at a decent distance from the console while charging the controller. Replacing and upgrading the chord with one of a better length is a wise choice, and one that I highly recommend.

The Playstation Controller 3 returns to the heavier weight that players are used to feeling from the controllers; ditching the lightweight design of the Six Axis. This makes the controller "feel" better to hold, making it sturdier as well. The major reason that I prefer this controller overall the other controllers that have been released is because of the directional pad. The d-pad is perfect on the Sony controllers. It allows for precision and accuracy in every genre of gaming. I was disappointed when Sony launched the PS3 and its controller lacked rumble capability, however, with this new release the Dualshock design is back and better than ever.
