The PS3 is an awsome gaming unit!

I am dissapointed with the power pack bundle. The cooling fan works well but takes up one of the usb ports. The multi control charger does not work, I have to charge each controller with a usb cable one at a time. The video remote sucks! Not only does it take up the other usb port but the control’s lay out is not well designed and does not do what you tell it to do on a consistant basis. I purchased the real PS3 video remote and it works perfect. I would have been better off spending the cash on another controller.

The PS3 is fine, though most of the newer models do not have backward compatibility to play PS2 games like the first models. I was very disappointed by that. Sony sux for taking that away. My HDMI cable stopped playing audio after the 2nd day. Getting the cable replaced from Psyclone Gaming was like pulling teeth. It has been a month and I still haven’t gotten it resolved with them. Psyclone customer service is totally unimpressive.

I find these unorthodox ‘bundle’ deals where vendors add some old/unpopular games or hardware that no one really needs to some version of the PS3 to be unnecessarily confusing and, more often than not, to the buyer’s disadvantage.

In this specific case – and I researched it because a friend and neighbor was looking into some money-saving PS3 deal, besides the PlayStation 3 80GB – you get a third-rate, USB-port needing remote control (I am using the Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote myself), a controller charger that I was able to live without for all these years and some cheap cables.

The price, as listed, is not outrageous for anyone who believes they actually need the power pack but one should remember that you will be charged shipping on this order and you will be charged a sales tax which is not the case when you go with a super-saver item.

In the end, my friend decided to go with the stand-alone PS3 and the Sony remote. He didn’t need a controller charger yet.
My Score: 2 / 5 stars
