I have grips on my PSP (Nyko with battery) and DS Lite Stereo Grips (Dream Gear). I was overall satisfied with those previous grips. I pre-ordered these grips and have been disappointed.

They do feel a little better than holding the DSi XL by itself, but not much. They do hold the DS securely enough. They don’t balance the DSi XL well in your hands. When the DS is open, if feels like the weight is pulling down slightly from the top. I would have liked for the handles to extend a bit lower as well for comfort.

The two slots for holding DS games are not good. They are too loose and I have had DS cartridges slide out of them. I no longer use those slots because I fear I won’t notice that a game has come loose and it will be lost.

My final complaint is my biggest one. I almost always use headphones when I play my DS. For some strange reason, these grips were designed in a way that covers up the headphone jack on the DSi XL. It makes using headphones impossible. I had to use some tools to cut a good chunk of plastic away and file it down to make it usable. You can get the stylus, volume controls, and SD slot without a problem, which is nice, but covering up the headphone jack is a huge no-no in my opinion.

I would not recommend these grips for the reasons above. Hopefully they will come out with an improved version in the future.

I usually don’t buy these types of things (grips of any sort for Nintendo hand helds), but this accessory has made holding the DSi XL for long periods of time ( 3 hours a pop) much easier. The XL can get pretty heavy after a while and the console-controller like grips feel great. Plus, the “kick stand” in the back works good too. The accessory itself is pretty light so it doesn’t really add to weight.

It attaches very snuggly with no wiggle, and (bonus!) it does not block the stylus port! Or the SD card slot or the volume controls for that matter.

This little gadget works perfectly. The DSI XL snaps right into place, no wiggle room, and yet it also snaps back out very easily. This will definitely ease the strain on your hands, thus allowing you to play for far longer. Unlike the ones for the PSP, which have adjustable arms that continually snap out of place, this is just one piece. It also has an added bonus of storing two DS games in the handles. It is perfect, does exactly what it is supposed to, and comes highly reccommended.

All in all it is one of the… no no it is the best accessory I have ever had. After years of play my hands are not like they used to be and the thumbs tend to cramp on the thin sleek design of the Dsi XL. At first it made all the worlds difference. After a bit it seemed to get in the way. Taking it off is a breeze and after 30 sec I put back on and have not taken it off since. The game slots are yes loose but they hold as long as you are not playing soccer with it in your hand. The stand on the back is great it extends as needed for light and comfort. I did see that there was one downer already mentioned and I didn’t pay it much mind but I would have liked to be able to use the mic/phones or even ear phones but the slot is blocked. It dose make the system more bulky but bulk next to comfort is a hands down comfort win. And it will come off with out a hassle. The Dsi XL Hand Grip is hard to find but worth the look and when you find it snag it…Great buy.

I bought this for my DSI XL because I use to use grips on my DS lite. How this product does work very well and it feels good holding it. It locks the system in place good and it won’t fall out if you did it right. The only thing that bugs me about it is that you can’t plug in headphones because one of the grips covers the headphone port. It doesn’t bug me too much since the DSI XL is loud but its annoying. I haven’t tried but I’m sure you can just get something to melt some of the plastic to have room for the headphones but you shouldn’t have to do that.

Overall great product and idea but that one flaw was big enough from giving it a perfect score. If you plan to play in your room or somewhere where you don’t need headphones to hear, then it is perfect.
